CHARGELESS TAXI CASH REGISTER

The Taxi Cash Register is a practical and efficient application which details and calculates the TOTAL taxi fare, including all relevant charges associated with a particular fare, such as tolls and eftpos service fees.

More importantly if you are a taxi driver or operator and combine this application with a standard business (eftpos terminal) it will make you thousands of dollars!!

Buy this App from the App Store BUY NOW.

CHARGELESS TAXI CASH REGISTER BY HAGOOLE

ChargeLess Taxi Cash Register Screenshots

HOW DOES IT WORK?

1.	Currently, the majority of taxi drivers manually calculate all the different tolls and charges associated with a particular fare and then add these amounts to the cost of the fare on the meter – this often leads to many perplexed customers who question the amount of the tolls and ultimately the total fare;

2.	The amount of the fare (together with the cost of the tolls) is then entered into an existing eftpos terminal and a 10% surcharge on this amount is charged to the customer;

3.	NOW with Taxi Cash Register (combined with a standard eftpos business terminal), the taxi driver can:

(a)	efficiently calculate the value of multiple tolls, the service fee and the total taxi fare;
(b)	process the transaction by using an independent eftpos business terminal obtained by the taxi driver from his/her selected financial institution; and
(c)	keep the majority of the service fee!!

4.	The taxi driver may elect to reduce the service fee charged to customers in an attempt to win regular customers – for example by charging 7% service fee instead of the usual total 11% after the GST on service fee is applied.

5.	A detailed receipt from the Taxi Cash Register can also be printed or emailed directly to the customer

Version 1.0 Calculates and emails detailed receipts (out now on iTunes)
Version 1.1 AirPrint support allowing for bluetooth printing, (waiting for Apple to approve new version)
Version 1.3 NFS payment capability as supported by the Google Android Galaxy Nexus and the iPhone 5 which is just around the corner plus application support of specialised accessory which permits credit card scanning, smart card reading and printing(coming soon)

Desire feedback for a unique “Wall” design of a new education social network I’m working on called “My Social Teacher – MSTeach.com”

Recently I hired a coder to work on a mock-up for the ‘Top Level Wall’ section of my start-up called
My Social Teacher – msteach.com.

DESIGN CONCEPT: Wall posts flow down vertically down but post comments will have a horizontal browse pad option with secondary comments flowing vertically down again designed to encourage more transparent discussions.

I would love to get some feedback, opinions or suggestion:

Do you think this is a good idea?

Will this cause more or less noise?

Is this layout confusing or intuitive?

Would it encourage more or less discussions?

Any ideas, comments, for or against verdicts… all would be greatly appreciated.

Image mock-up below is made from Google +1 feed since I am still in stealth-mode and Google +1 already beat me to hangouts. You can send me some feedback via the feedback button, facebook comments below, or just do a shout out to @HaggleSearch or @MSTeachcom, or you can find me on Google +1 (Peter Malaczynski)

Notice in the image mock-up comments run across horizontally while secondary level comments go directly below the addressed comment. This is a one man start-up trying things against the odds so please sow a seed of your precious time by leaving an honest comment.

Google’s Three Billion Dollar Motorola Mobility Overbid an Adwords Marketing Opportunity?

Recently Google overbid itself by 33% on the Motorola Mobility acquisition as reported by Bloomberg which added $3 billion to the $12.5 billion final bid. This was a move that Google made out of fear of a public auction and the companies own evaluation of the strategic deal.

Google may try and get their money’s worth out of this expensive strategic acquisition to educate the public about the benefits of Google Adwords and its unique ‘seal bid – Vickrey auction’?

Basically if the Motorola acquisition process functioned like Google Adwords; CEO, Larry Page, would save a cool three billion dollars.

A Vickrey auction is a type of sealed-bid auction, where bidders submit written bids without knowing the bid of the other people in the auction, and in which the highest bidder wins, but the price paid is the second-highest bid. The auction was created by William Vickrey. This type of auction is strategically similar to an English auction, and gives bidders an incentive to bid their true value. ~Wikipedia

This whole incident is something that Google had to do and could be a great PR promotion for Google Adwords. What do you think? #Googorola #Haggling

ANSWER: understand probability

Below is a counter-intuitive statement that your mates will not believe and will have no qualms in placing a small wager in order to disprove your theory. The important thing is to bring it up casually in between drinks and it will be “your shout, mate!

“Did you know that if you have a random group of 41 people at a party there is a 90% chance that someone in that group shares a birthday? That is, 2 people sharing a common birth day and month out of a possible 365 days in a year.”

* the law of probability tells us the chance of something being right, not the outcome, so take your wallet with you just in case

Common Oktoberfest Mistake:

Most people (including those under the influence) will conduct a quick mental calculation of dividing the number of people in the group (41) by the number of days in the year (365) to yield an 11% chance of your statement being correct…….so when you claim a chance of 90%, this large discrepancy presents quite an attractive proposition to the unsuspecting punter.

Oktoberfest Party Trick Instructions:

How you go about this is up to you, but one way is to throw in a seemingly counter-intuitive statement when out with a large group of people, say at the upcoming Oktoberfest. Something like “there’s probably about [41] of us here. There must be at least a couple of us who share a birthday.“

For the sceptics out there, offer to conduct a survey of birthdays. If the law of probability is way in your favour, why not offer to have a free beer riding on the outcome. Chances are you will win*.

A few all-knowing yet gullible friends prepared to put their money where their mouth is also helps. To mark off birth-dates when conducting your survey just print off the blank 2013-Calendar provided.

*Remember the law of probability tells us the chances of something being right, not the individual outcome. There is still a 9.7% chance you may lose for the suggested group size of 41 people.

MATHEMATICAL SOLUTION:

Probability of sharing a birthday?

First let’s work out the probability for every body having a unique birthday in their consecutive order. The order is important as the empty days on the calendar will be reduced with each person. We will basically play battleships when conducting our survey and we will solve the problem with the same logic.

Once we get every individual’s chance, in their order, we will multiply them together which will give us the chance of having 41 people with a unique birthday.

Once we have this value we simply want the opposite value which will give us the chance of two people sharing a birthday in our group.

One For The Sceptics

“One learns by reading. Few learn by observation.
The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence for themselves.” ~Will Rogers

For the sceptics out there who need to piss on the electric fence for themselves I have provided an excel formula that you can use to generate random numbers in excel to run your own experiment.

=ROUNDDOWN(RAND()*365+1,0)

Just create 41 rows (group size) for at least 10 columns (cases) and see what you get in practice. As soon as a number repeats in a vertical column for group size of 41 people you will know that someone has just shared a birthday which should happen 9 out of 10 times.
